Retranscription des paroles de la vidéo: hello world Shelly here and today I would like to talk about skin care specifically ahas and bhas acids in your skincare I have done a lot of working with acids in my skincare in this past year and I just thought I would give you a little bit of information about what they do why you might want to do them you guys have seen me mention multiple products that I have incorporated into my skincare routine so let’s just chat about skin care and acids the two main kinds of acids that you will find in skincare are ahas or Alpha hydroxy acids and bhas beta hydroxy acids there are a couple other kinds as well but these are the two most common they act as exfoliants so anything that is exfoliating your skin is designed to break up the bonds between your dead skin cells and your fresh skin cells underneath so that you can then wash them away brush them away wipe them away whatever the goal is to get rid of your dead skin cells on the surface leaving behind the newer fresher healthier less damaged skin that tends to make your skin look smoother it tends to help with fine lines and wrinkles it can help re resolve old sun damage so sun damage is primarily why I have wanted to work with acids in my skin although I must admit I am quite happy at the Improvement in the texture of my skin as well and that’s why you might want to consider incorporating these things into your skincare routine you definitely want to start slow you don’t want to dive into some of these more heavier more serious products before your skin can adapt to it but let’s talk about the difference between the ahas the bhas what should you do which one should you use which is better which is more appropriate for your skin honestly you can use them both pretty much regardless of what kind of skin type you’ve got so let’s talk about ahas first the alpha hydroxy acids they’re sometimes referred to as fruit acids because often they’re derived from fruit or like sugar cane or plant-based products they can be derived from milk and the most common one that you will find on the market in skincare is glycolic acid it’s derived from sugar cane now a lot of these today are synthetically developed as opposed to coming from the natural sources so on the bright side that if you’ve got some kind of allergy to the natural product you might be able to use a synthetic version I haven’t done enough digging to discover whether the products I’m using are natural or synthetic based but as a general rule glycolic acid comes from sugar cane another another aha is lactic acid which is derived from milk and you will also see citric acid which comes from citrus fruits and if you have dry to normal skin the ahas are your best bet not that you can’t use bhas we’ll talk about this in a second but the reason that the ahas are more gentle for dry skin is that they are water soluble as opposed to being fatter or oil soluble and water soluble means they’re going to stay on the surface of your skin they also can actually help a little bit with hydration they are really good for reducing sun damage the way the exfoliation breaks up those skin cells and helps to break away those dead cells good for getting rid of sun damage now BHA is the beta hydroxy acids the main one that you’re going to find is salicylic acid and citric acid depending how it’s formulated can be an ah aha or a BHA but typically the BHA you’re going to find in most products is salicylic acid and salicylic acid is oil soluble or fat soluble so not only does it work on the surface of your skin but it can also get inside your pores and work past the oil that has built up in your pores so that makes it best for normal to oily skin it’s not really a drying product so it’s okay to use if you’ve got dry skin and the combination of the two can actually kind of work synergistically to Target all of the ways that you can chemically exfoliate your skin but it is generally calming and suitable for sensitive skin if you’ve got things like rosacea you might be able to get away with salicylic acid as an exfoliant you might try them both generally I would recommend if you’re looking to get into acids try them both and see how your skin responds in general when you’re using any of these ahas or bhas you don’t have to wait for those products to dry before you continue with your skincare routine you’re going to fit them in depending whether you’re using them in cleansers or in a leave on product if you’re using them in a leave on product you would do your cleansing do your toner wait till your toner absorbs into your skin or you can use them as a toner step and then go in with the rest of your skincare your serums your creams your oils Etc a moisturizer sunscreen so you don’t have to wait for your acids to dry before you continue with the rest of your routine if you’ve got combo skin you’ve got some dry areas and some oily areas you might experiment with using the ahas on the areas of your skin that are dry like let’s say you’ve got cheeks and forehead might be you know perimeter of the face chin might be dry and your T-Zone might be oily and that area you might then use the BHA in your your T-Zone and try to use the best benefits of each and negate the downsides of each by using it in a combo way you should always always always make sure you’re wearing sunscreen when you are using acids in your routine because I mean heck you just exfoliated away dead skin and now you’re showing this beautiful fresher skin underneath don’t damage the skin that you just brought forward like sunscreen always every every single day please people please you don’t want to apply acids on your eyelids or directly under your eye you can go around your eye Contour but don’t go directly up underneath your eyes or on your eyelids it’s not recommended that way and if you are using other topical prescription strength skin care like if you’ve got red and a or if you’ve got prescriptions for rosacea you might want to talk to your doctor before you go combining acids with the prescription stroke rength topicals that’s generally you should speak to your doctor if you have questions with any kinds of these things with skincare get with your dermatologist see what they say let me talk about how I am incorporating these into my routine so you’ve seen my night serum the drunk elephant TLC the Fram boost glycolic night serum this is a leave on treatment it’s a serum that you would use in the evenings it is an aha BHA combo and if you are going to combine ahas and bhas in your skincare routine I would recommend sticking with combo products that have been formulated with certain percentages of each in the actual product as opposed to taking you know a a single acid product and using an aha acid product and a BHA acid product in the same part of your routine if you want to use two different single non-combined products I would recommend you either do one in the morning one at night or alternate days you do you know one on even days of the week and one on odd days of the week but if you’re going to combine them I would I would recommend sticking with a product that already has them combined in its own you know specific formulation so the glycolic night serum from drunk elephant is a leave on serum product I use it in the serum step of my night care once I use this up so I’m going to I’m going to be using it this year for two nights a week and once I use it up I will probably stick with using my acids in my toners and my cleansing now you guys have seen the toners that I prefer these are both products that are combo uh Aha and BHA in the same product we have The tarte Knockout tingling treatment and the biologic I can’t say the second part of their name the p50 this is the pigmentation 400 version of the p50 but all of the p50s are a combo toner type acid product these are fan freaking tastic it’s the best thing I’ve done for my skin since ever now the thing that I am adjusting this year in my skin care is switching out from using a daily glycolic leave-in to moving my acids to my cleansing step except for twice a week I will do the leave on at night time so one that I have been trying out is called that’ss it I just get this on Amazon it is inexpensive it is salicylic acid as a cleanser it’s a BHA cleanser it is appropriate for sensitive skin the ingredient there’s less than 10 ingredients it’s a very simple ingredient deck and it’s very gentle so I can use this every day and I’ve got dry skin and it does not make my skin more dry I don’t have any trouble with it so that is where I say even if you have dry skin try out ahas and even if you have oily skin try out ahas it’s not like they are exclusive to dry skin or oily skin I have no trouble with this it works really well with my Clarisonic and it’s really inexpensive there is a glycolic cleanser that I have been trying this is a 4.9% glycolic it is made by Anthony Brands and I did receive this in PR from Anthony Brands Anthony gifted this to me well not Anthony himself but he is a real guy like the Anthony Brands were created by a guy named Anthony and this also has some other ingredients in it that help for soothing and nourishing and moisturizing the skin we’ve got aloe vera chamomile uh vitamins a c and e and that’s one thing I like about higher-end products tend to have a good balance of other ingredients that will help either counteract the downsides of a certain ingredient or help make them work better so any drying you might get from a glycolic acid would be offset by some of the other ingredients in this cleanser so you only need a tiny bit of this cleanser it also works wonderfully well with my Clarisonic you know I’m only down this far I’ve been using it for about 3 weeks now and I really like the texture of it let me just show you guys it’s kind of a thick sort of cream consistency but it almost spreads like a gel you know what I’m saying it’s not a straight cream it’s got more slip to it more of a liquid feel to it once you start spreading it out and I use it with my Clarisonic I am also using I mentioned in a previous video the Mario badescu glycolic foaming cleanser I like this one the Anthony brand a lot better it’s more expensive than the Mario Mario but the texture is a lot nicer it’s a lot more soothing feeling to my skin and I think it is because of those additional ingredients that the Mario product does not have so I would definitely prefer this one the this is a 4.9% glycolic did I say that I don’t remember if I did but I’m using my acids in my cleansing step now and I’m just alternating you know every other day I go back and forth between the BHA salicylic and the AHA glycolic and it’s working really well it’s I am not noticing any downside to not wearing the Levon glycolic every night I think I am still getting the benefits of breaking those bonds of the dead skin cells by doing it in my cleanser step and personally I feel like that opens up an extra step in my leave on treatments which is where I’m replacing it with more retinols to just Target different issues with my skin so personally I’m going to say my preference in terms of incorporating acids in your skin care is to either do it in the pre-step you know your cleansing step or do it in your toning step and that way you kind of leave open a slot for an additional serum type product or an additional treatment cream type product in the rest of your skincare routine so there you have it that is my take on ahas and and bhas and incorporating acids into your skin care routine if you enjoy these sort of Deep dive into the hous and wise of different ingredients and skincare products give me a thumbs up down below please subscribe if you haven’t already I post new videos every Monday Wednesday Friday 9:00 p.m. eastern time as always thanks a lot for taking some time out of your day to 3.679 hello world Shelly here and today I
.24 would like to talk about skin care
.8 specifically ahas and bhas acids in your
.36 skincare I have done a lot of working
.359 with acids in my skincare in this past
.68 year and I just thought I would give you
.68 a little bit of information about what
.76 they do why you might want to do them
.16 you guys have seen me mention multiple
.519 products that I have incorporated into
.279 my skincare routine so let’s just chat
.68 about skin care and acids the two main
.92 kinds of acids that you will find in
.92 skincare are ahas or Alpha hydroxy acids
.8 and bhas beta hydroxy acids there are a
.32 couple other kinds as well but these are
.44 the two most common they act as
.879 exfoliants so anything that is
.079 exfoliating your skin is designed to
.64 break up the bonds between your dead
.0 skin cells and your fresh skin cells
.12 underneath so that you can then wash
.839 them away brush them away wipe them away
.52 whatever the goal is to get rid of your
.96 dead skin cells on the surface leaving
.36 behind the newer fresher healthier less
.119 damaged skin that tends to make your
.6 skin look smoother it tends to help with
.36 fine lines and wrinkles it can help re
.96 resolve old sun damage so sun damage is
.56 primarily why I have wanted to work with
.0 acids in my skin although I must admit I
.72 am quite happy at the Improvement in the
.84 texture of my skin as well and that’s
.88 why you might want to consider
.399 incorporating these things into your
.2 skincare routine you definitely want to
.36 start slow you don’t want to dive into
.439 some of these more heavier more serious
.36 products before your skin can adapt to
.24 it but let’s talk about the difference
.159 between the ahas the bhas what should
.399 you do which one should you use which is
.36 better which is more appropriate for
.799 your skin honestly you can use them both
.239 pretty much regardless of what kind of
.16 skin type you’ve got so let’s talk about
.28 ahas first the alpha hydroxy acids
.56 they’re sometimes referred to as fruit
.2 acids because often they’re derived from
.72 fruit or like sugar cane or plant-based
.12 products they can be derived from milk
.76 and the most common one
.4 that you will find on the market in
.16 skincare is glycolic acid it’s derived
.959 from sugar cane now a lot of these today
.64 are synthetically developed as opposed
.0 to coming from the natural sources so on
.48 the bright side that if you’ve got some
.56 kind of allergy to the natural product
.8 you might be able to use a synthetic
.28 version I haven’t done enough digging to
.04 discover whether the products I’m using
.879 are natural or synthetic based but as a
.239 general rule glycolic acid comes from
.64 sugar cane another another aha is lactic
.92 acid which is derived from milk and you
.519 will also see citric acid which comes
.2 from citrus fruits and if you have dry
.68 to normal skin the ahas are your best
.159 bet not that you can’t use bhas we’ll
.319 talk about this in a second but the
.0 reason that the ahas are more gentle for
.12 dry skin is that they are water soluble
.4 as opposed to being fatter or oil
.28 soluble and water soluble means they’re
.84 going to stay on the surface of your
.879 skin they also can actually help a
.68 little bit with hydration they are
.439 really good for reducing sun damage the
.92 way the exfoliation breaks up those skin
.4 cells and helps to break away those dead
.159 cells good for getting rid of sun damage
.4 now BHA is the beta hydroxy acids the
.72 main one that you’re going to find is
.56 salicylic acid and citric acid depending
.36 how it’s formulated can be an ah aha or
.64 a BHA but typically the BHA you’re going
.239 to find in most products is salicylic
.28 acid and salicylic acid is oil soluble
.76 or fat soluble so not only does it work
.92 on the surface of your skin but it can
.44 also get inside your pores and work past
.44 the oil that has built up in your pores
.199 so that makes it best for normal to oily
.12 skin it’s not really a drying product so
.72 it’s okay to use if you’ve got dry skin
.0 and the combination of the two can
.56 actually kind of work synergistically to
.4 Target all of the ways that you can
.88 chemically exfoliate your skin but it is
.44 generally calming and suitable for
.88 sensitive skin if you’ve got things like
.6 rosacea you might be able to get away
.12 with salicylic acid as an exfoliant you
.479 might try them both generally I would
.52 recommend if you’re looking to get into
.16 acids try them both and see how your
.199 skin responds in general when you’re
.12 using any of these ahas or bhas you
.96 don’t have to wait for those products to
.0 dry before you continue with your
.4 skincare routine you’re going to fit
.759 them in depending whether you’re using
.08 them in cleansers or in a leave on
.52 product if you’re using them in a leave
.039 on product you would do your cleansing
.4 do your toner wait till your toner
.08 absorbs into your skin or you can use
.08 them as a toner step and then go in with
.8 the rest of your skincare your serums
.96 your creams your oils Etc a moisturizer
.52 sunscreen so you don’t have to wait for
.24 your acids to dry before you continue
.08 with the rest of your routine if you’ve
.319 got combo skin you’ve got some dry areas
.479 and some oily areas you might experiment
.12 with using the ahas on the areas of your
.199 skin that are dry like let’s say you’ve
.84 got cheeks and forehead might be you
.96 know perimeter of the face chin might be
.919 dry and your T-Zone might be oily and
.72 that area you might then use the BHA in
.44 your your T-Zone and try to use the best
.36 benefits of each and negate the
.039 downsides of each by using it in a combo
.599 way you should always always always make
.96 sure you’re wearing sunscreen when you
.12 are using acids in your routine because
.4 I mean heck you just exfoliated away
.24 dead skin and now you’re showing this
.319 beautiful fresher skin underneath don’t
.759 damage the skin that you just brought
.28 forward like sunscreen always every
.56 every single day please people please
.199 you don’t want to apply acids on your
.16 eyelids or directly under your eye you
.28 can go around your eye Contour but don’t
.72 go directly up underneath your eyes or
.68 on your eyelids it’s not recommended
.599 that way and if you are using other
.44 topical prescription strength skin care
.4 like if you’ve got red and a or if
.0 you’ve got prescriptions for rosacea you
.96 might want to talk to your doctor before
.039 you go combining acids with the
.68 prescription stroke rength topicals
.12 that’s generally you should speak to
.919 your doctor if you have questions with
.759 any kinds of these things with skincare
.96 get with your dermatologist see what
.72 they say let me talk about how I am
.44 incorporating these into my routine so
.08 you’ve seen my night serum the drunk
.08 elephant TLC the Fram boost glycolic
.84 night serum this is a leave on treatment
.639 it’s a serum that you would use in the
.8 evenings it is an aha BHA combo and if
.8 you are going to combine ahas and bhas
.72 in your skincare routine I would
.479 recommend sticking with combo products
.759 that have been formulated with certain
.96 percentages of each in the actual
.36 product as opposed to taking you know a
.68 a single acid product and using an aha
.0 acid product and a BHA acid product in
.319 the same part of your routine if you
.4 want to use two different single
.96 non-combined products I would recommend
.599 you either do one in the morning one at
.96 night or alternate days you do you know
.44 one on even days of the week and one on
.639 odd days of the week but if you’re going
.68 to combine them I would I would
.44 recommend sticking with a product that
.0 already has them combined in its own you
.4 know specific formulation so the
.159 glycolic night serum from drunk elephant
.159 is a leave on serum product I use it in
.44 the serum step of my night care once I
.0 use this up so I’m going to I’m going to
.12 be using it this year for two nights a
.319 week and once I use it up I will
.24 probably stick with using my acids in my
.399 toners and my cleansing now you guys
.68 have seen the toners that I prefer these
.36 are both products that are combo uh Aha
.839 and BHA in the same product we have The
.76 tarte Knockout tingling treatment and
.16 the biologic I can’t say the second part
.6 of their name the p50 this is the
.64 pigmentation 400 version of the p50 but
.12 all of the p50s are a combo toner type
.44 acid product these are fan freaking
.16 tastic it’s the best thing I’ve done for
.8 my skin since ever now the thing that I
.519 am adjusting this year in my skin care
.24 is switching out from using a daily
.16 glycolic leave-in to moving my acids to
.32 my cleansing step except for twice a
.92 week I will do the leave on at night
.44 time so one that I have been trying out
.72 is called that’ss it I just get this on
.92 Amazon it is inexpensive it is salicylic
.68 acid as a cleanser it’s a BHA cleanser
.839 it is appropriate for sensitive skin the
.079 ingredient there’s less than 10
.76 ingredients it’s a very simple
.279 ingredient deck and it’s very gentle so
.519 I can use this every day and I’ve got
.2 dry skin and it does not make my skin
.839 more dry I don’t have any trouble with
.16 it so that is where I say even if you
.76 have dry skin try out ahas and even if
.36 you have oily skin try out ahas it’s not
.279 like they are exclusive to dry skin or
.68 oily skin I have no trouble with this it
.079 works really well with my Clarisonic and
.68 it’s really inexpensive there is a
.32 glycolic cleanser that I have been
.32 trying this is a 4.9% glycolic it is
.079 made by Anthony Brands and I did receive
.56 this in PR from Anthony Brands Anthony
.92 gifted this to me well not Anthony
.2 himself but he is a real guy like the
.279 Anthony Brands were created by a guy
.0 named Anthony and this also has some
.56 other ingredients in it that help for
.76 soothing and nourishing and moisturizing
.88 the skin we’ve got aloe vera chamomile
.04 uh vitamins a c and e and that’s one
.0 thing I like
.8 about higher-end products tend to have a
.36 good balance of other ingredients that
.16 will help either counteract the
.72 downsides of a certain ingredient or
.04 help make them work better so any drying
.32 you might get from a glycolic acid would
.8 be offset by some of the other
.88 ingredients in this cleanser so you only
.959 need a tiny bit of this cleanser it also
.6 works wonderfully well with my
.44 Clarisonic you know I’m only down this
.92 far I’ve been using it for about 3 weeks
.92 now and I really like the texture of it
.68 let me just show you guys it’s kind of a
.639 thick
.6 sort of cream consistency but it almost
.04 spreads like a gel you know what I’m
.12 saying it’s not a straight cream it’s
.279 got more slip to it more of a liquid
.2 feel to it once you start spreading it
.959 out and I use it with my Clarisonic I am
.519 also using I mentioned in a previous
.12 video the Mario badescu glycolic foaming
.76 cleanser I like this one the Anthony
.36 brand a lot better it’s more expensive
.399 than the Mario Mario but the texture is
.32 a lot nicer it’s a lot more soothing
.72 feeling to my skin and I think it is
.68 because of those additional ingredients
.72 that the Mario product does not have so
.44 I would definitely prefer this one the
.44 this is a 4.9% glycolic did I say that I
.199 don’t remember if I did but I’m using my
.6 acids in my cleansing step now and I’m
.36 just alternating you know every other
.6 day I go back and forth between the BHA
.279 salicylic and the AHA glycolic and it’s
.88 working really well it’s I am not
.279 noticing any downside to not wearing the
.76 Levon glycolic every night I think I am
.0 still getting the benefits of breaking
.839 those bonds of the dead skin cells by
.04 doing it in my cleanser step and
.519 personally I feel like that opens up an
.32 extra step in my leave on treatments
.56 which is where I’m replacing it with
.32 more retinols to just Target different
.76 issues with my skin so personally I’m
.199 going to say my preference in terms of
.16 incorporating acids in your skin care is
.04 to either do it in the pre-step you know
.88 your cleansing step or do it in your
.32 toning step and that way you kind of
.6 leave open a slot for an additional
.0 serum type product or an additional
.8 treatment cream type product in the rest
.079 of your skincare routine so there you
.76 have it that is my take on ahas and and
.279 bhas and incorporating acids into your
.519 skin care routine if you enjoy these
.24 sort of Deep dive into the hous and wise
.399 of different ingredients and skincare
